One of this weekend’s special dessert (at home) happened to be caramel custard, yes again (we all love it!). You can find my shortcut of the classic recipe here. In my hurry to pop it upside down the caramel custard broke. I didn’t wait for it to cool down before turning it upside down and the result- broken lumps of caramel custard!
I guess shortcuts don’t always work… okay I learnt my lesson but I couldn’t have thrown it away… or have made again. You can ask me- How did I contain the disaster? I cut the larger lumps of caramel custard into bite sized cubes!
All the extra pieces which did not resemble a cube, I chopped them even finer and layered them at the bottom of a transparent cup and then topped it up with the pretty little cubes! Sprinkled it with chocolate crumbs/shavings and called it my new recipe…Chocolate Caramel Custard in a cup! This version was for the kids.
I added a tablespoon of rum in hubby’s cup and it turned out even more delish! Imagine all the flavours of caramel, chocolate and rum in every bite, you have to taste it believe it… deliciously sinful! Before long it was all over!
Have you had such ‘shortcut’ disasters? How did you turn it into something special/new?
