My daughter, my ‘partner-in-crime’ in most of my DIY ramblings, is getting independent…I say this because she is forever busy creating something for her room or for her friends. Of lately she is totally hooked to Pinterest! Inspired by one of the pins, she made a couple of Soda Can Luminaries for the little balcony along her room. I just loved it!
Won’t they look beautiful in the patio too? With that thought in mind, I asked her to give me a demo and a little help … for the patio! Our patio is becoming home to all the recycled goodness! Check out some great outdoor recycled projects here and here. Coming back to our pictorial demo:
Using a pair of scissors, cut open the soda cans at both the ends (looking at the sharp edges I advised her not to do any such DIY without my supervision). Cut open the cylindrical part as well. Trim and straighten the sharp edges with scissors.
Punch the can foil with a punching machine, as shown… we used a star, flower, and a snowflake. Mark and punch evenly on both the edges (top and bottom).
Once done with punching the designs, fold up and staple it back into cylindrical shape. It’s done!
Place them over T-lites or candles and see the magic!
I love them as such, I don’t intend to paint them but you can paint/decorate them, the possibilities as endless. Won’t they look pretty in the garden, patio or the balcony…on special occasions? Making these luminaries we ended up with lots of punched out shapes… now we are raking our brains over what to do with these pretties!! Any ideas?
