Photography Challenge # 5- Bedroom

Today, the second day after Diwali and a holiday… I got a little extra time to be on the internet. Browsing through some of my favourite blogs, one of them being Redesigned by M, I decided to do this post as my entry for the Photography Challenge # 5- Bedroom.

Honestly, I didn’t have to do much (post Diwali cleaning, everything looks good for at least a few weeks! ;-)). Just propped and fluffed up the pillows, straightened them a bit (everything looks so crooked in the camera, I wonder why). So here is my entry for the Photography Challenge # 5- Bedroom.

Holiday means getting up late! I just love the morning view from the bedroom window (from my bed)… that’s another excuse to be in bed till late! You see I am at work… admiring nature!

This is how I do up my bed before I leave for work every day.

Okay, an honest confession… I do leave it messy every once in a while when I am running late but I am sure it’s allowed… or is it not? Anyhow, I have trained my children to do theirs… my daughter follows it to the T everyday and I have no comments for my son’s bedroom… lesser said is better.

Coming back to the topic, at the end of the day (generally post dinner) this becomes the sight of my bedroom, especially my side of the bed.

I know what you all must be thinking… shop-talk on bed! Yes, shop-talk on bed… please don’t judge me… I don’t feel like sitting in my home office at the end of the day leaving my cosy and comfortable bedroom. I like to stretch my legs straight, prop up against all the pillows and perch up my lappy on my bed-table and browse the net or read a book or sketch… that’s my hour! The only deal that I have to honour for that one hour is that I do not mess my husband’s side of the bed! He hates the clutter I create.

I try to keep the deal but sometimes I end up with too much of a clutter all over the bed and that’s the day I get an ML (moral lecture!) from him for this bad habit. I will definitely try to mend my ways… maybe after the winters 😉

There may not great photography or great styling in the photographs but I definitely enjoyed the shoot and the write-up. And yes, I am open to suggestions and criticism… bring it on!

Thanks M @ Redesigned by M for this challenge (a first for a newbie like me!).

  1. Hi Supriti,
So glad to see we have another participant! Woo-hoo!!
Love your rich, yet cozy style of bed linens. I have the same pointers as M said above. I would have liked to see the navy blue throw spread across the duvet. You have a lovely view, but I cannot help but wonder how a sweeping view of the bed and window would look together. I have no idea of your bedroom layout, so just saying.
In pic 3, you could have cropped out the far left side table for a stronger picture. It unnecessarily draws the eye to a less appealing corner. The 4th pic is a little dark, I see the same angle has been better captured in image 5.
Great job overall and you have a lovely blog!
Feel free to come on over and leave your feedback on my post too.
    xx,
    Anjana.

    • Thanks for your insightful comments Anjana! As for the view… just to give you a perspective of the room (and expect a suggestion how I could have tried some other angle), I request you take look at this post http://supritichauhan.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/the-great-wall-makeover/ The last two photos in this post has the same window (although the curtains are drawn, I took the pic late at night). There is another window too, though not seen in the photo, on this side of the sofa. Thanks!

      • I would say, just keep trying with different angles and see how they turn out.
If you cannot find a nice angle in your room, try shooting from the doorway or from a corner in the bedroom. Don’t be scared to get down on your knees while trying to find a different angle.
I am learning all sorts of such lovely pointers via this challenge and am sure you will too!

  2. Hi Supriti! OK, the first two things that came to mind were 1) You keep a really neat bed and 2) I’m so envious of that view out your window!

I’m quite partial to the first image and you’ll know why if you’ve seen my photo shoot this month (haha!). In terms of styling in that photo, I would recommend the following tweaks: 1) Push the left set of pillows closer to the right set so there isn’t a gap visible in the headboard. This makes the bed feel more cozy and lush. 2) Move the blue throw at the foot of the bed so that it extends all the way past the camera frame, again presenting a cozier and lusher bedding and making your eye see beyond the photo instead of stopping short. 3) The blue cup on the nightstand could be omitted. As it is, the surface looks a tad bit cluttered.

And the last thing I have to say is that when I lived alone, I used to have a bed that looked like your side of the bed. Now, I have a chaise in the living room that doubles as my “office,” leaving our bed free and clear of work, just sleep! And good on you to have a daughter who follows orders so well. A well made bed in the morning is the perfect start to any day!

Thanks for this submission! I hope you’ll join us again next month and each month after…?

    • Thanks for such a detailed comment M! I will definitely try out all that you advised. And yes I would like to be part of all the submissions. Thanks!

      • Excellent! I’ve just invited you to join our FB group. It’s a forum for all the participants so we can inspire and motivate each other and ask any question that one might be struggling with in each of the challenges. Welcome aboard!
