Old Table Makeover

It was just out of a whim, I had no plan of doing this project. A breezy Saturday morning, with an on-and-off drizzle, a hot cuppa tea… I had finished reading the weekend stash of Newspapers… I just wanted to spend time in our verandah. And that’s when I thought of keeping myself suitably occupied. The table looked tad too bland, I had a stencil lying in craft box, an idea in my head and I had time on hand (psst…I didn’t want to do the regular chores!) plus I had nothing read.

This old table makeover was a rather quick project, all done in an hour!

And no, I didn’t bother to sand or prime the surface of this table; I just cleaned it with a scrub pad and soapy water, wiped it dry and started stenciling. I used yellow and orange acrylic colours to do the stenciling as the colour scheme gels well with the rustic ‘geru’ (Indian brick colour) in the verandah. Gave the last touches with a fine tip brush.

The bright pattern adds a dash of colour and of course it takes away the need for any table-cloth 🙂

  1. Love the table makeover.. 🙂 had a few questions- what material is the table made of? and which company’s paints did you use- is it water resistant.. Hope my questions don’t bug you.. but like my last comment I can’t stress enough on the fact of how glad I am to have found a DIY blog from India.. do you recommend any other blogs ? Thanks a ton Supriti.. 🙂

    • Thanks Aki! The table is made of reclaimed wood (very old) and it has been withstanding just about every weather, we keep it outside in the patio. The paints that I used are Artist’s Acrylic by Camelin. You can also use 100ml Asian paints tins (for metal and wood). Both the varieties are water proof. I clean the table with a wet cloth. Just avoid using a scrubber or scotchbrite. And if you are planning to do stencilling/painting on a new table, you can finish the work with a top coat of clear varnish/clear lacquer/clear touchwood (also available in spray cans). Happy DIYing!

  4. I love your new makeover. Originally thought you had to sand and prime, but you didn’t, which makes it even more amazing 🙂

  5. Lovely it is, Supriti 🙂 Firstly, I love the round shape of the table instead of the usual squares. And you have painted it too good!
