I guess my daughter’s Fine Arts skills are rubbing on to me! Every day she has something new to show. Looking at her enthusiasm, after ages I dug into my art stash and did something worthwhile…its not complete yet but I am getting there.
It all started with helping out my daughter and a chance workshop with Smt. Shanti Devi a while ago. Let me introduce Smt. Shanti Devi – a renowned ‘madhubani’ artist, painter, crafter who specializes in Mithila painting (also known as Madhubani paintings). Learning the art form under her tutelage was a great experience… the techniques, the details, the nuances and the PATIENCE … just the push I needed to set the ball rolling and to kick alive the dormant creative cravings!
The vibrancy of colours in her paintings is indescribable. And her tenacity towards her work is so infectious that anyone can learn under her guidance. I feel so lucky and privileged to have her as my ‘guru’ while I attempt my first Mithila painting.
The base drawing is a simple line drawing but it is intricate and tedious. After three days of dedicated work…this is where I am at the moment… a little different (from the original) but not bad for a first timer.
It seems simple in terms of drawing but most first timers in this art form, may lose perspective…I did it while trying to adjust the four ‘cows’ (check out the bottom right corner of the original)! I ended up with space just enough for one!
I shall post the picture when it’s done…until then enjoy the original by Smt. Shanti Devi.
